CLARIFIED by Regents of the University of California (2025) PERB Order No. Ad-525-H, to provide that the University of California IX unit (also referred to as “Unit 18,” the “Non-Senate Faculty (NSF) Unit,” or the “Non-Senate Instructional Unit”) is not a “teaching-only” unit. There is no bar to placing employees in the IX unit merely because they also perform duties other than teaching, such as research and service.

The UC-AFT failed to meet its burden of proving a unilateral transfer of unit work, since the UC-AFT has not proven that the non-bargaining unit adjuncts are now performing duties that were previously exclusively performed by unit employees.
