Governor Newsom Takes Action on Board Appointees

On Friday, January 22, Governor Gavin Newsom designated Board Member Eric Banks as Chair of the Public Employment Relations Board and reappointed Board Member Arthur Krantz to the Board.

Chair Banks becomes the first openly gay chair of the Board and gives PERB a chair for the first time since the departure of Mark Gregersen in 2018. The designation does not require Senate confirmation and Chair Banks’ current term ends in December of 2021.

Board Member Krantz was first appointed to the Board in 2018, by Governor Jerry Brown. He now has the distinction of having been appointed by two separate administrations. The appointment requires confirmation by the state Senate and his 5-year term ends in December of 2025.
